WOW709 Focke Wulf 190A-5 Walter Kohne 
Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG 1)

Our latest Fw 190 is one flown by Walter Köhne, initially an NCO and later commissioned as an officer.  He flew several variants of the FW 190, including the FW 190A-5, A-7, and A-8.  Serving with Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG 1) on the Western Front. He is credited with 30 aerial victories, His FW 190A-5 was notably coded “White 7” and carried the name of his angora cat, “Uschi”, painted on the side.  On June 22, 1943, he shot down a B-17 Fortress (42-29998) during an Allied mission to Hüls, Germany. On October 5, 1943, he downed a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.  He survived several incidents, including being shot down near Albachten on January 23, 1945, by his own flak, and making an emergency landing due to an engine fire on March 9, 1945. He was awarded the German Cross in Gold and survived the war
